Questions
What bases are supported?
This tool supports any base from 2 to 36. Bases above 10 use letters A-Z as additional digits. For example, base 16 uses 0-9 and A-F, while base 36 uses 0-9 and A-Z.
Why is base 36 the maximum?
Base 36 is the highest base that can use the standard alphanumeric characters (0-9 for the first 10 digits and A-Z for the next 26), giving exactly 36 unique digit symbols.
How do I convert between octal and hexadecimal?
Set the source base to 8 (octal) and the target base to 16 (hexadecimal), or vice versa. The tool handles the conversion directly without requiring a manual intermediate step through decimal.
Is the base converter case-sensitive?
No. You can enter letters in uppercase or lowercase (e.g., "ff" or "FF" for hexadecimal). The tool normalizes the input before converting.
Does this arbitrary base converter work offline?
Yes. All conversions are performed in your browser. Once the page has loaded, no internet connection is required.
